Bhoomika Tiwari, a NLIU student from the 2013 batch has bagged the second position in the 2nd NUJS Fiction Writing Competition, with her entry, Strafanstalt Isle, winning 8,000 INR as prize money. We extend our heartiest congratulations to her!

The competition comprised of writing a short fictional piece, woven around any one of five popular books in English literature. The books provided included, The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, The Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by R.L.Stevenson, Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, and Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat. Bhoomika chose Robinson Crusoe for her story. She wrote about a girl, Robin, who gets stranded on a hostile planet, much like Crusoe got stranded on a desert island. Her entry can be read here.

Bhoomika is a passionate reader. Some of her favourite books are Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, To Serve with Love by E.R. Braithwait, Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell and Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. One of Bhoomika's major interests include FanFiction. She says that in fact, the competition excited her because it was largely based on the FanFiction genre of writing.

The first prize in the competition was won by Apoorva Sharma of National Law University, Delhi, for the story Preludes, which was based on The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
The third prize was won by Shikha Rastogi from National Law University, Cuttack, for her story, Escapade, which was woven around The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
